The Luminact team spent the day exploring the Australian International Aerospace and Defence Exposition at Avalon Airport and gaining insight into the latest aerospace and defence technologies. Highlights included the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) showcasing their advanced virtual reality simulation programs, a range of innovative drones, from the RMIT micro 3D printed drone to the massive Northrop Gumman MQ-4C Triton, and an opportunity for our senior consultant Shele to try her hand at flying the Navy’s AS 350BA Squirrel helicopter in the flight simulator.
Avalon 2017 provides a great opportunity to showcase next generation technology, along with services and systems that are on offer to general aviation, as well as defence forces globally. This year the RAAF’s Plan Jericho was a central theme among many exhibitors, made all the more relevant by the imminent arrival of the first two Australian 5th generation F-35A Joint Strike Fighters. Plan Jericho will ensure the RAAF transforms its current capability to leverage the enormous amount of battle-space data available from platforms like the JSF, P-8A Poseidon and EA-18G Growler aircraft into a networked operational environment.
